Skype 4.0.0.8 Installation

Let's first uninstall the old version of Skype with these commands:

sudo apt-get purge skype skype-bin

sudo apt-get autoremove

Install now Skype 4.0.0.8 with these commands (i386 & amd64 systems):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/chat
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skype

That's it!

Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit version install skype

Install skype from Canonical Partner Repository in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin(RECOMMENDED)

Double click the downloaded deb file, it will open in ubuntu software centre, click the install button to install the application.

After upgrading your machine to the 64-bit version of  Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin), your Skype might not start. The problem might be caused due to a missing 32-bit library.

Run skype to see if it throws any error.

$ skype
skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory

Find the missing libraries using the ldd command.

$ ldd /usr/bin/skype

linux-gate.so.1 => (0xf7796000)
libasound.so.2 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libasound.so.2 (0xf767d000)
libXv.so.1 => not found
libXss.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXss.so.1 (0xf7678000)

 Insatll the 32-bit version of the library

$ sudo apt-get install libxv1:i386

Skype в апплете уведомлений Ubuntu

chmod +x skype-notify-messaging
./skype-notify-messaging

Выбираем нужный пункт:

1. Установить Skype Skype Messaging Menu
2. Удалить Skype Skype Messaging Menu
3. Выход

Выбираем первый пункт. После установки запускаем Skype и открываем настройки, где выбираем пункт "Уведомления" и нажимаем кнопку "Больше настроек" (перевд Skype на русский язык хромает, да). Ставим галочку "Запускать следующий скрипт при событии" и вводим в поле команду:

python /usr/share/skype-notify-improved/skype-notify.py -e"%type" -n"%sname" -f"%fname" -p"%fpath" -m"%smessage" -s%fsize -u%sskype




Нажимаем "Применить".

Теперь нужно перезагрузить Ubuntu. После перезагрузки запускаем Skype из апплета уведомлений. Появится окно с запросом авторизации Skype, ставим галочку и соглашаемся.
